Forging Ingots for Flanges and Forged Rings
Flanges, blinds and similar forged discs are made from ingots that are upset, punched and finished. Pressure-service flanges are made to ASTM A182 or similar specifications, so the steel must meet the grade limits exactly.
We supply forging ingots for forged rings and forging ingots for flange manufacturing in carbon, alloy and chrome-moly grades, with IBR approval where the flange needs it.
Typical components
- Weld neck and blind flanges
- Tube sheets
- Forged discs
- Valve bonnets
- Pressure vessel nozzles
Recommended steel grades
ASTM A182 F11
A chrome-moly grade for forged parts in elevated temperature service in power and process industries.
ASTM A182 F22
A creep-resistant chrome-moly steel for forged flanges, fittings and valves operating at high temperature and pressure.
SAE 4130
A lower carbon chrome-moly steel with good weldability and strength, used in pressure and structural parts.
SAE 1045 / C45
A common medium carbon steel with good strength and machinability. Often used in the normalised or quenched and tempered condition.
SS410
A hardenable stainless steel with moderate corrosion resistance and good strength.
Choosing the ingot
For pressure-retaining flanges, the buying checklist is: ASTM grade and class, IBR or PED needs, impact test requirement, and third party inspection. Specify these in the first enquiry.
Check the ingot size chart for available marks and weights, and read how to choose the right ingot size using the forging reduction ratio.
