EN42 forging ingots
High carbon spring steel in the BS 970 series.
Spring steel forging ingots and bearing steel forging ingots are heat treated to very high hardness. They depend on steel cleanliness more than any other family, because inclusions start fatigue cracks, which is why vacuum degassing and ladle refining matter here.
Supplied as square, fluted and round forging ingots, M1.5 to M22 (1,450 to 23,500 kg with hot top), vacuum degassed and bottom poured. Send the grade, standard, ingot mark and shape for a quotation. Chemistry is certified on the heat test certificate.
High carbon spring steel in the BS 970 series.
Silicon-manganese spring steel, close to 55Si7, used for leaf and coil springs.
Chromium spring steel with good hardenability, for leaf springs and torsion bars.
Chromium-vanadium spring steel with good fatigue strength.
The current EN 10089 name for the 50CrV4 family of spring steel.
Silicon-manganese spring steel (EN 10089), close to EN45, for leaf and coil springs.
Higher carbon silicon-manganese spring steel for heavier springs.
BS 970 high carbon chromium bearing steel, close to SAE 52100.
The reference bearing steel, about 1% C and 1.5% Cr, for bearing races and rolling elements.
