Forging Ingot Specifications

These are the forging ingot specifications to confirm on every order: ingot mark and shape, grade and chemistry, supply condition, and the test certificate and traceability.

Size and weight

Kesari Alloys supplies forging ingots in square, fluted and round shapes from M1.5 (about 1.45 tonne) to M22 (about 23.5 tonne with hot top), vacuum degassed, ladle refined and bottom poured.

The size chart lists the mark, dimensions, hot top type, pieces per heat and weight.

Forging ingot chemical composition

Forging ingot chemical composition is set by the grade standard (SAE, EN, DIN, JIS, ASTM) or by the customer's specification. Open a grade family for designations and typical chemistry. The final analysis is certified on the heat test certificate.

Supply condition: annealed, spot ground and fully ground ingots

Annealed forging ingots are heat treated before dispatch when the forging process needs a soft, stress-relieved starting condition. Spot ground forging ingots have local defects removed, and fully ground forging ingots are ground over the whole surface. Heat treatment and grinding are available on request at extra charge, so state them on the enquiry.

Forging ingots with mill test certificate

Forging ingots with mill test certificate carry the heat analysis, with oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen checked on the gas analyser. Further tests such as PMI, ultrasonic testing and third party inspection can be listed on the order.

Forging ingot heat traceability

Forging ingot heat traceability links each ingot to its heat number and test certificate through melting, casting and dispatch, so a forged part can be traced back to its melt. The guarantee on chemistry applies while the material is in the uncut stage.
