Forging Ingots for Valve Bodies
Valve bodies, bonnets and wedges are forged for pressure service in refineries, power plants and pipelines. Alloy grades are chosen for strength, high temperature performance or corrosion resistance.
Forging ingots for valve components include bodies, bonnets, wedges and stems, in chrome-moly, alloy and stainless grades.
Typical components
- Valve bodies and bonnets
- Gate and globe valve wedges
- Valve stems
- Pressure seal parts
Recommended steel grades
ASTM A182 F22
A creep-resistant chrome-moly steel for forged flanges, fittings and valves operating at high temperature and pressure.
ASTM A182 F11
A chrome-moly grade for forged parts in elevated temperature service in power and process industries.
SS410
A hardenable stainless steel with moderate corrosion resistance and good strength.
SAE 4130
A lower carbon chrome-moly steel with good weldability and strength, used in pressure and structural parts.
EN19
A widely used chrome-moly steel with good hardenability, toughness and fatigue strength in the quenched and tempered condition.
Choosing the ingot
Valve forgers often order lower weight ingots (M1.5 to M4) in larger numbers. Material traceability by heat number is standard.
Check the ingot size chart for available marks and weights, and read how to choose the right ingot size using the forging reduction ratio.
