IBR, PED 2014/68/EU and AD 2000: What the Approvals Mean
A short guide to IBR, PED and AD 2000 Merkblatt approvals for pressure-part forging steel, and why buyers ask for them.
IBR: Indian Boiler Regulations
IBR governs boilers and steam pipes in India. Materials for boiler parts must come from a manufacturer approved by the Central Boilers Board, with inspection by an authorised inspecting authority. An IBR-approved ingot supplier can supply material for IBR forgings.
PED 2014/68/EU
The Pressure Equipment Directive sets requirements for pressure equipment sold in the European Economic Area. Material makers show conformity through a quality system and material approvals so that forgings can be certified under the directive.
AD 2000 Merkblatt W0
AD 2000 is a German pressure vessel code. Its W0 sheet sets general requirements for materials used in pressure vessels. Makers with an AD 2000 W0 certificate can supply steel for such vessels.
What to ask your supplier
Ask for the approval certificate, its scope and validity, and which grades and products it covers. Also ask about test certificates (for example EN 10204 3.1) and third-party inspection options.
