Forging Ingots for Wind Energy Components
Wind turbine shafts, gear rings and bearing rings are large, fatigue-loaded forgings. They start from heavy, clean ingots with low hydrogen and tight analysis limits.
We supply forging ingots for wind energy components in alloy and bearing grades, in the heavier marks.
Typical components
- Main rotor shafts
- Gearbox shafts
- Gear rings
- Bearing rings and flange rings
Recommended steel grades
EN24
A high strength, deep hardening steel with very good toughness, used where heavy sections must harden right through.
SAE 4340
A tough, high strength steel with excellent hardenability. Often chosen for heavy-duty, shock-loaded parts.
42CrMo4
The EN 10083 designation of the 4140 / EN19 family, widely specified for European and export orders.
SAE 52100
The reference high carbon chromium bearing steel, known for hardness, wear resistance and rolling contact fatigue life.
EN19
A widely used chrome-moly steel with good hardenability, toughness and fatigue strength in the quenched and tempered condition.
Choosing the ingot
