D2 Forging Ingots
AISI D2 cold work tool steel. A high carbon, high chromium tool steel with very good wear resistance, used for cold work tooling.
D2 chemical composition

D2 as a forging ingot
D2 ingots need controlled cooling and ample forging reduction to break up the carbide network.

Heat treatment: Annealed for machining, then hardened and tempered. Care is needed in forging because of the carbide network.
